Stress & Relaxation
Relaxation is our key to health and stress is our key to ill health. An element of both is a happy balance where we take care of ourselves but have enough motivation to get up and do the things we need to do. When we are relaxed we have our best ideas!
It is estimated that over 80% of illness is a caused by stress. Our suppressed immune systems, digestive and sexual systems, our increased blood pressure and heart rate, over time have long lasting effects. Living off adrenalin is not supposed to be a permanent state. Adrenalin has its uses, but only during relaxation can the adrenal glands even begin to replenish themselves in readiness for the next use.
Finding it hard to switch off? Relaxation is a learnt and can be an easily forgotten state. Relaxing treatments help to turn off your SNS (Sensory Nervous System - your alertness and readiness to ‘act’ and ‘do’.) and allow your PNS (Parasympathetic Nervous System) to take over, the automatic systems within retrieve vital nutrients and replenish stores for chemical, nutritional and healthy balance… this is why our digestive systems often rumble when we relax!
If you find it hard to relax, treatments such as massage and reflexology, healing and classes such as yoga create space for you to do so. It is typical that you learn to relax more and more with practice, entering deeper and deeper states of relaxation each time you have a treatment.
If you are in good health in general, we recommend you have a treatment of some kind, any kind, each month just to maintain your health and take care of yourself. Something for you. Space in which to relax. It doesn’t have to be the same therapy, therapies are fun! Try them out and see what suits you for the occasion!
