WHAT IS HOT STONES MASSAGE?

For thousands of years stones or gemstones have been used for healing. Hot stones have been used by various cultures; the Chinese used heated stones to improve the function of internal organs and to relieve muscular pain. The Japanese used warmed stones placed on their abdomens to aid digestion. In India river stones were warmed on hot coals or in hot water as part of an ancient healing tradition.

Native folk healers would use heated stones to ease pain and discomfort of menstruation and cold stones were applied in the belief they would help slow bleeding after labour, women also believed that holding the stones during labour would give them extra strength and endurance.

Benefits

The stones used for a treatment are basalt stones which are warmed in water. During the massage the warm stones will improve circulation which will help release built up toxins in the body. The stones can also help exfoliate the skin leaving it soft and smooth. The stones are used to massage and help relax muscles, ease tension and bring about a sense of calm and wellbeing.

New information coming soon in accordance with new ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) guidelines.

The Treatment

After the initial consultation you will be made comfortable on the therapy couch and hot stones will be placed on areas of the body which will help to relax and increase the flow of energy. The massage is slightly different to an aromatherapy massage as contact with the body is broken at intervals to replace cooling stones with warmer stones but the sense of relaxation is not affected by this.

Chakra stones may also be used to help realign and balance energy.
