Reiki is a natural healing energy that is activated by intention. It treats the person as a whole and works on many levels aiding mental, emotional and physical well-being.

The Japanese word ‘Reiki’ means Universal Energy or Universal Life Force. It is an ancient Japanese form of healing that dates back thousands of years. Techniques that are used to manipulate energy in the body are derived from ancient healing arts found in numerous cultures, races, and religions. This life force energy is called qi or chi by the Chinese, ki by the Japanese, baraka by the Sufi’s, light by the Christians, ka by ancient Egyptians, prana by Hindus, and ho’omana by the ancient Hawaiian kahunas (experts in Huna).

In many forms of medicine that originated in the East, this life force energy is viewed as the flow of energy that sustains life itself. It is believed that disease occurs when this vital energy is out of balance, and healing is enhanced when balance is restored. The idea of using energy to heal is also used in Western medicine in the form of electrocardiograms and electroencephalograms to record the electrical energy of the heart and brain, respectively. Other forms of Western medicine’s use of energy include: electrical stimulation to suppress pain, electromagnetic fields to help fractured bones heal, and sound waves to heal bone outgrowths and dissolve kidney stones. However, the scientific world is relatively new in their understanding in comparison to what the metaphysical and spiritual teachers have known for centuries.
During Reiki, not only do the brain wave patterns of practitioner and receiver become synchronised through deep relaxation and meditation, but they pulse in unison with the earth’s magnetic field. Energy healing is not only natural but is also effective because it is in alignment with the way nature works.

Reiki helps to energise, re-balance and focus the body and mind through deep relaxation, helping to bring about feelings of peace and security through the aid of the body’s own detoxification process, dissolving energy blockages within the body. Its benefits include:

Reduces stress and promotes relaxation, alleviates tiredness and aching muscles.
Relieves colds, cuts, burns, fatigue, sprains and other complaints of
day to day living.
Promotes recovery from surgery and injury
Relieves side effects
Prevents ill health
Eases pain & discomfort
Promotes physical & mental balance
Enhances health & well-being
Increases energy levels
Removes mental blocks
Enables creative flow
Enables reconnection with inner self
Compliments and increases therapeutic effects of both conventional
medicines and alternative remedies

A Reiki treatment is non-diagnostic, non-interventionist, non-manipulative and no pressure is applied; and can be carried out with the recipient sitting or lying down. The therapist acts as a channel for energy flow which is transferred to the recipient. Whatever specific reason Reiki is sought out it will naturally go where it is needed most, the only pre-requisite is that the recipient has a desire to heal oneself and bring balance back into ones life. The recipient may experience a vast range of sensations during the treatment, some of these include gentle tingling, heat, cold or slight movement within the body.

The principles of Reiki are:

Just for today, do not worry
Just for today, do not anger
Honour your parents, teachers and elders
Respect the oneness of all life
Show gratitude
Make your living honestly
