Maternity Reflexology?
Maternity Reflexology covers treatments in three different stages,
• Pre-conception (for both men and women)
• Pregnancy
• Postnatal Period (6-8 weeks after birth)
During the pre-conception phase maternity reflexology can help regain/maintain regular cycles. Many women have irregular periods, which can make it difficult to predict the more fertile days where you can get pregnant. Some women do not even ovulated every month due to different hormone imbalances. Reflexology is a natural therapy to help your body regain its normal hormone balance. Other benefits can be fewer symptoms of PMS, less painful and less heavy periods. It is ideal to treat both partners since both sperm and ova need to be healthy. The creation of sperm and maturation of ova can take up to 3-4 months. So it is important to stay healthy even before you think of getting pregnant.
During pregnancy the female body undergoes enormous physical changes. Hormones control the changes. Not only are the hormones changing, but also the mum-to-be may have all kinds of feelings and emotions, which changes every day. It can be feelings from extreme happiness about the miracle that is happening to nervousness and doubt if she is ready to be a mum. Again reflexology is very good to balance the body, mind and soul.
The postnatal period is the first 6-8 weeks after birth. This is the period where the body has to change back to its non-pregnant state. A reflexology treatment 1-3 days after birth is recommended. This can help the new mum to recover from the birth, which could have been more or less exhausting. Also a treatment will help trigger the milk production for the baby and in general help the new mum to relax and feel okay with her new role in life, which for most new mums can be quite overwhelming. Research has shown that women who have had regular reflexology treatments throughout her pregnancy in general have had a shorter birth
Who Am I? What Do I Do?
I am originally from Denmark. I was introduced to complementary therapies when I was 22 years old and studying engineering in Denmark. Later in my work life I found myself with stress attacks and again turned to complementary therapies. I found it very interesting and finally in 2007 I decided to try being a therapist myself and started studying Reflexology in Denmark which I finished in the summer 2008.
I have lived in Denmark most of my life but have also lived in Spain for 5 years. Especially in Spain I met people from many different countries. Living in a country and meeting people with a different language makes you listen in a different way. When you don’t understand the phases that is said you have to develop your skills to read body language and use your intuition. It sharpens your senses. I try to use this in my treatment, to give the best experience.
I keep getting amazed by the power complementary therapies have and the connection between our feet and the different parts of the body. The first session can be a big step for some people and they might feel vulnerable. They are telling a totally stranger about their feeling, weaknesses, sickness history etc. Some might not like that anyone touches their feet. Again others just can’t wait to get the treatment session started and to relax. We all react differently and need different things. So no persons are alike – and therefore needs individual treatments. Knowing this I try to create a relaxing atmosphere where you can feel comfortable, safe and listened to.
In our daily life we generally do not care much about our health. First when we are sick we go to the doctor. Why are we not treating our own bodies better than that? We take care of our car, take it to the yearly revisions and maintain it so it will not break down in the middle of the motorway. Maybe we should start to do the same with our body and mind – so we don’t break down in the middle of our life in the most inconvenient moment. Life is beautiful and should be enjoyed every moment – and the best way to do it is when we are healthy and well.
